Igor Konak is a British citizen of Czech origin.
He
has lived in Saint Etienne since 1977.
His life has been marked by three
different cultures.
One can feel a certain Slavonic nostalgia in his paintings,
his sense of humour is British while his colours and the light diffused
in his
scenes have been inspired by France.
He likes to paint townscapes often populated by comic or tender
characters.
In
his compositions one can find the cities he has lived in – London,
Prague, and Lyon.
He plays around with reality – reinventing time and place, combining
memories
with dreams.
His paintings are generous, full of lucky finds, of pure colours
mirroring life devoid of stress or perhaps hiding it away for a while,
inviting
to reflection.
His modesty prevents him from drawing attention to his own
personality – he contents himself with a spectator’s smile.
