Michel LIENARD

Michel Liénard grew up in a creative universe.
His father was a painter and his grandfather a painter-decorator.
He inherited from them a gift of singular sensitivity.
This quality has led him to the exploration of scriptural form and to the development of a personal calligraphy illuminated with radiant colours.
His painting contains truth and humility. Michel Liénard has taught visual arts in Mons in Belgium since 1969 while pursuing his career as an active and original artist.

The act of painting is, above all, the desire to express what the artist carries inside without necessarily having conscious control of it. Reflection comes only after the act, when one asks questions and looks for answers.
One has to stay humble as one does not control everything.
One may say that our work escapes us as it is impossible to define what each painting makes us experience or what world it makes us enter.
Michel Liénard starts by imagining a sign, a series of signs drawn over and over again until they become his own personal writing.
Then he takes photographs, projects the revealed enlarged fragments of the never ending process and he selects his colours. These may be bold or gentle, defining the picture – the series of pictures -  each defusing its own light that follow one another, all coming from the same source yet always different.
