Since his first
exhibition in 1971 Alain Ponçon
has
always expressed his complexities – picture after picture.
He often employs a
rudimentary technique in search of simplicity.
Yet he never locks himself up in
a single system – his work is punctuated with experimental paintings.
With
great freedom he mixes techniques as the fancy takes him.
He knows that there
is no recipe and that each painting is an uncertainty as for its
success.
His art
expresses his feelings, his fears, his
anguish.
Bold stokes, spontaneous gestures, colour and tenderness are all in
his paintings which appear misleadingly naïve.
But if you look closely you will
detect irony as well as sincerity as the artist’s ultimate veil behind
which he
is hiding his sense of modesty.
He has special affection for paper which he
likes for its brittleness and its resistance and in whose texture he
finds all
the uncertainty of a creator.
